Our Senior Legal Associate, Connie Ho Suk Mun together with our Legal Associate, Jess Ng Siow Hui from Zul Rafique & Partners’ Corporate Real Estate practice group have advised and acted for Tropicana Firstwide Sdn. Bhd. (“TFSB”), a subsidiary of Tropicana Corporation Berhad (“Tropicana”) in the disposal of freehold lands in Gelang Patah, Johor to several indirect subsidiaries of a Japanese multinational information technology service and consulting company, for a consideration of RM383.13 million.

The disposal of lands by TFSB aligns with Malaysia’s vision to become a global destination for data centre operators to the world’s largest technology companies. The transaction also supports the government’s current initiatives, namely the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and the upcoming JB-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link, both of which attract growing interest from multinational corporations and data centre operators.

With Tropicana’s strong presence in Johor and taking on the responsibility of completing crucial infrastructure works to facilitate the data centre’s development, this transaction underscores Tropicana’s ability to capitalize on and contribute to the demand for data storage and digital innovation across Johor, which is rapidly emerging as a digital infrastructure hub in Southeast Asia.

Zul Rafique & Partners’ Corporate Real Estate practice group is pleased to have played a pivotal role in this transaction, helping our client navigate the legal landscape and secure a deal that will have positive outcome for Malaysia’s digital economy.
