Biography

FERUZ ANWAR SETH is a Partner in the Tax Practice Group. He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) Degree from the University of Westminster, UK, in 1992. He was admitted as a Barrister-at-Law of Gray’s Inn in 1993 and an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1994.

Feruz joins us from the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) where he was a Senior Revenue Counsel. Among the matters handled by Feruz at the IRBM were tax appeals filed by the taxpayers at the Special Commissioners of Income Tax (SCIT). He also handled appeals from the SCIT to the High Court and Court of Appeal as well as Judicial Review applications and other related litigation matters. Feruz was also involved with mediation and settlement discussions as well as the mentoring of Junior Revenue Counsels.

Prior to his career with the IRBM, Feruz worked as a legal practitioner in the areas of litigation, conveyancing, and corporate-commercial matters. His clients included major financial institutions, corporate entities as well as government bodies and he has had a number of reported cases both while in legal practice as well as during his stint with the IRBM.

While in practice, Feruz was a volunteer lawyer for the National Legal Aid Foundation. He was appointed to sit on the Investigating Tribunal and the Disciplinary Committee Panel of the Advocates & Solicitors Disciplinary Board. Feruz was also listed as a mentor in The Malaysian Bar’s Register of Mentors. Feruz is currently an Exco Member of the Association of Inland Revenue Alumni (AIRA) and an Associate Member of the Malaysian Association of Tax Accountants (MATA).
